How to Clean and Care for the Chain Drive on Your Everyday Motorcycles StreetMaster

Proper maintenance of your StreetMaster’s chain drive is essential for smooth performance and longevity. Regular cleaning and lubrication prevent wear, reduce noise, and improve fuel efficiency. Here’s a simple step-by-step guide to keep your chain in top shape.

What You’ll Need

  • Chain cleaner or kerosene
  • Soft brush or old toothbrush
  • Clean rags
  • Chain lubricant (preferably motorcycle-specific)
  • Gloves to protect your hands

Cleaning the Chain

Start by placing your motorcycle on a stand so the rear wheel can spin freely. Spray the chain cleaner generously, then use the brush to remove dirt and grime from all sides of the chain. Avoid using harsh chemicals that could damage O-rings if your chain has them. Wipe the chain clean with a rag and let it dry completely before moving on.

Lubricating the Chain

Once the chain is dry, apply chain lubricant evenly along the inside of the chain while slowly rotating the rear wheel. Focus on the rollers and links to ensure proper penetration. Wipe off any excess lubricant to prevent attracting dirt.

Regular chain maintenance every 300-600 miles or after riding in wet or dusty conditions will keep your StreetMaster running smoothly and extend the life of your chain and sprockets.
